Namibia Wildlife

Namibia is famous for its wildlife. The wildlife of the country attracts tourists from all over the world. The country has 26 parks and the largest of them is the Etosha National Park. The park has 114 mammal species. The Namibian desert is well known for its lizard species which numbers around 30.

The Wild Dog, Black Rhino, Oribi and Puku are the list of endangered species in Namibia. There are 20 known species of antelope in Namibia out of which the largest is the Eland and the smallest is the Damara Dik-Dik. The wildlife in Etosha is typical of any Savannah grassland with animals such as Springbok, Burchell’s Zebra, Gemsbok and Blue Wildebeest. There are also smaller numbers of Red Hartebeest and Mountain Zebra. Some of these species are found nowhere else in the world. All these animals mentioned in the list above co-exist with the Lion, Cheetah and the Leopard.

In the Waterberg Plateau one can find animals such as the Tsessebe, Roan and Sable antelope. It would be interesting to note that this place is demarcated as a research and breeding ground for these animals. There is also a small population of White Rhino at the Waterburg Plateau which were brought in from South Africa. There is a seal reserve in Cape Cross which covers 60sqkm. The seal numbers hover between 80000 and 100000 in this place. The population is within this range because seal pups are very often killed by jackals and hyenas. Namibia has lots to offer in terms of its wildlife and this is what entices tourists from across the globe.
